I know you’ve probably heard this before, but I know a thing or two..because I’ve SEEN a thing or two. Wedding planning can get pretty crazy, especially when you have Aunt Barb who got married 30 years ago and wants to make sure your first look DOES NOT happen on the day of, because you know “bad luck”. Here are 5 of my top wedding planning tips for couples who don’t know where to start!
1: Set a budget from the start.
I know money is somewhat of an awkward topic, but it is vital in planning your day. Setting a budget from the start gives you a great base line. It could also help you decide what is most important to you as a couple. Without setting a strict budget, the cost of your wedding can get out of hand faster than you can say OH NO!
2: Let one vendor lead you to another.
Vendors do this for a living! It is sometimes so crazy to think it is another day in the office for us, but a moment to remember for a lifetime for our couples. Hire your photographer first? Ask for their recommendations on a florist, nine times out of ten they will know exactly who will fit your budget AND vision. Select a venue first? Ask if they have a preferred catering list! These caterers will know the ins and outs of the venue you selected and have a great working relationship with the venue, especially if they are on their preferred vendor list!
3: Organize, Organize, ORGANIZE!!
I cannot stress this enough, O.R.G.A.N.I.Z.E. Start an excel spreadsheet for who you have paid and how much, start a google folder for all of your contracts, keep track of everything for your records so you can have a smooth seamless day. Bonus tip: If you hire a planner, pass this over to them! Depending on what package you choose, they may be able to do all of this for you!
4: Bring your shoes to your fittings! Guys AND Girls!
One of the biggest tips I have ever given my couples is DO NOT FORGET YOUR SHOES! If you are getting your dress/suit tailored, this is of vital importance to make sure your pants or dress fits right when you’re wearing your shoes on the day of your wedding.
5: Enjoy the day!
Remember, this day is seriously all about you and the love of your life. Don’t stress the small things. Run your day how you want it to go. Take the time to soak all of the love of the day in! If you’re needing an extra hand, look into a day of coordination in your area.
Hello,
My friends referred me to you because of a wedding they had with you as their coordinator. I am planning to get married soon & they said you had an awesome list of what to bring the day of the wedding. Not sure if that is something you can share with the public but it would be awesome if you would be willing to share that with me!
Thanks for your time
